Apple — Holiday Campaign 'The Song'

A campaign that explored how Apple's product ecosystem facilitates meaningful human connection during the holidays — repositioning Apple not around what its products do, but around what people can do with them.

"The holidays have become so saturated with mindless gift giving that we have forgotten the true intention behind why we give gifts."

The film followed a granddaughter who discovers an old recording of her grandmother singing. Using Apple software, she learns to play the same melody and records a new version of the classic Gershwin composition as a gift — not something bought, but something made.

The track was produced by legendary music producer T Bone Burnett and made available on apple.com and iTunes. The decision to release the music beyond the campaign turned a commercial into a genuine cultural moment — the song itself became the gift the brand was offering.

The campaign resonated so strongly that it inspired Apple's first-ever Chinese New Year campaign adaptation, developed by the Shanghai team — a testament to the universality of its emotional core.
